PHAI’s Harry Levant Featured on CNN’s Terms of Service with Clare Duffy

Ahead of one of America’s biggest sports betting days, Harry Levant, Director of Gambling Policy at the Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI), was featured on CNN’s Terms of Service with Clare Duffy podcast, released February 3rd, to discuss the rapid expansion of online sports gambling and its public health implications.

In the episode, Harry joins CNN reporter Clare Duffy to break down how sports betting apps are designed to engage users and how current “responsible gaming” models often fail to adequately protect the public.

“We have normalized — and now deliver — a known addictive product at lightning speed, through partnerships between the gambling industry, sports leagues, media, and the tech companies. People have this addictive product in the palms of their hands.

As online gambling becomes more accessible — and more aggressively marketed — Harry emphasizes the need for a public health–driven approach that prioritizes prevention, transparency, and accountability, rather than placing the burden solely on individuals.
